Senior Resource Geologist

For over 60 years Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd (Hancock) has been engaged in the exploration and development of mineral resources in Western Australia, with current tenements in the Central Pilbara covering more than 1400 km2.

In order to support Resource Development activities across Hancock’s portfolio of project areas the company is now looking to recruit a Senior Resource Geologist.

This is a Senior Role based in our West Perth office.  You will be accountable for ensuring the delivery of accurate, high-quality Long-Term Resource Models to the strategic planning horizon within Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd.’s Iron Ore asset team.  This is an important role which is essential to the contribution on the next phase of growth.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology (BSc or recognised equivalent)
  • Extensive (10+ years) Resource Geology experience
  • Exceptional knowledge of Hamersley Basin Stratigraphy and Iron Ore mineralisation
  • High level technical reporting skills
  • Strong skills in Leapfrog Geo and Maptek Vulcan based resource modelling and estimation software
  • Familiarity with Supervisor geostatistical software and understanding of geostatistical techniques
  • Experience with acQuire database software and an understanding of drilling/sampling and QAQC processes
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • You will be dynamic and forward thinking, adaptable and resilient.
  • Collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders across Studies, Engineering, Metallurgy and Geology

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Compile and maintain the geological modelling and estimation schedule in alignment with the strategic project schedule.
  • Undertake geological modelling/interpretation, geostatistical analysis and estimates to deliver the accurate technical information for the relevant planning horizon.
  • Ensure geological interpretations and estimates are delivered within sufficient time to inform downstream stakeholder decisions and designs.
  • Supervision and monitoring of geological data and QAQC practices.
  • Drive growth options for the business by providing strategic information for the Life of Mine plan based on resource knowledge.
  • Communicate key drivers of geological and resource uncertainty and risk.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture, remain current with modelling methodologies and technology-based solutions to resource modelling.
  • Guiding, mentoring and coaching individuals to contribute to the professional and cultural development within the geoscience team.
  • Undertake geological due diligence and evaluation of Mineral Resources for exploration, joint venture, merger or acquisition growth initiatives.
  • Compile Mineral Resources for desktop, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for target projects within the company portfolio.
